Though Kim hails from Michigan, Gainesville has been ‘home’ since relocating her family from a rural farming and manufacturing town in mid-Michigan to Florida during the 2007-2008 financial crisis.
“I saw the economy crashing from the small town where I was raising my kids, who were in middle and high school at the time, and knew I needed to give them a solid foundation to grow into adulthood in a community that would rebound faster with a better-insulated economy offering world class education, health care, career and recreational opportunities.
I had lived in Gainesville briefly in the early 1990s and knew with the University of Florida, Santa Fe College, Shands, the VA, myriad business incubators, existing businesses and regional and state growth on the horizon, the greater-Gainesville area was a great choice.
And, it worked. All three have great educations, rewarding careers and happy, productive lives in the area. Gainesville is home!”
When she landed in Gainesville in 2008, the first order of business after getting the kids settled into school was joining the Florida Public Relations Association and volunteering with municipal boards and area nonprofits, which she continues today, serving on as Board Member of the Leadership Gainesville Alumni Association, Advisory Council Member with Ronald McDonald House of North Central Florida and on the United Way Community Investment Council, a working team of 40+ community professionals who perform site visits and assess funding applications by area nonprofits for our community’s workplace donations and makes allocation recommendations to the Board of Trustees for roughly $1 million per year.
Kim earned her Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in public relations and marketing from Eastern Michigan University where she was Public Relations Student Society of America Member of the Year and founded an award-winning nonprofit organization pairing EMU student mentors with Metro-Detroit foster care kids to guide them through high school graduation through the transition into college. After moving to Gainesville, she served in marketing, communications and public relations with the University of Florida and various nonprofits, and in student leadership and community engagement at Santa Fe College. Kim is a licensed Realtor and serves as Marketing Director for United Country | Land & Lifestyle Properties and its sister company, Columbia Timber Company.
“I’m a big fan of smart local, regional and state growth and considering real estate from an economic development and investment perspective. That’s why United Country / Columbia Timber is such a great fit for me. We not only help residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural investors buy and sell property and businesses, we also have the expertise to help them maximize agricultural opportunities on their land through timber as a crop, and facilitate recurrent, long-term return on those investments.”
Kim is a member of the Gainesville-Alachua County Association of Realtors, Greater Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce and the Leadership Gainesville Alumni Association.
In her free time, Kim enjoys hiking, yoga, honing her take on nutrition, wellness, personal development and investing, watching the sun set at her hayfield happy place, long drives along country back roads with the windows rolled down and the music cranked up, kayaking, gym time, volunteering, laughing with the people who mean the most to her and keeping her fins and mask in her trunk in the event of a snorkeling emergency at one of our nearby springs on a hot summer day.
